The Milan Furniture Fair was launched in 1961 and is the largest trade fair of its kind in the world today. Visitors from 150 different countries take part to celebrate and experience the latest in furniture and design. The fair is seen as a leading venue for new interior design products. It’s also known as “Salone”, “Milano Salone” and “Milan Design Week” and is held every year in the metropolitan area of Milan.

When the fair made its first appearance in the early 60s the focus was on Italian furniture only. It has since continued to remain this way, ensuring that all four corners of the earth know the quality of Italian design.

Over the years the Milan Furniture Fair has grown in size. The current show occupies an area of nearly 230,000 square metres and includes 2,500 companies, along with 700 young designers at the Fuorisalone (Milan Design Week), which is a secondary exhibition.

The 2012 event was attended by 292,370 trade operators (nearly 2/3 of whom came from outside of Italy), 39,279 of the general public and 6,484 media and communication professionals.

The next event will be held between 9th-14th April 2013.
