Savvy businesswoman Miuccia Prada’s together with her business partner and husband Patrizio Bertelli, heading the $9,5 billion fashion empire, started working in the field of contemporary art around fifteen years ago.

Since 1994 the non profit Prada Foundation has been very active in the avant guarde Milan art scene organizing two major international shows each year as well as conferences, film festivals and published over 30 books on art and architecture.

Today the Prada Foundation is housed in a former industrial building in the trendy Porta Romana district just south of central Milan that AMO, the research arm for Dutch Architect Rem Koolhaas’s Office for Metropolitan Architecture was commissioned to renovate. Prada has worked with Koolhaas on several projects, like that of the SoHo store in New York.

Apart from the renovation of the six former industrial buildings for a total of 17,5 square meters in Largo Isarco, OMA will also be inaugurating a brand new 6 storey tower with a surface area of 10 000 square meters on the same site.

With the opening of the Foundation, Prada has a new paved the way to a new fashion pole to other mega brands like Burberry and Dolce and Gabbana in the Porta Romana area, making it one of the most up and coming, sought after on the Milan art scene today.

The Prada Foundation will host events during the Milan Expo 2015.
